Twin Passions and the Fork in the Road
“Science/Guy/Voice-over” pretty well describes Warren. He is a guy whose life has been driven by his twin passions for Science and Voice work. During his high school years, Warren discovered his love for being behind the microphone. Whether it was delivering the morning announcements or serving as the Announcer at home basketball games, his talent for voice work began to flourish. However, his passion for science led him down a different path in college and graduate school, where he received Batchelor’s degrees in both Biology and Chemistry with top honors, and eventually earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry.

Warren’s scientific expertise propelled him into a highly successful 30+ year career as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. He led teams of creative scientists throughout his career and made significant contributions to the discovery of drugs that have saved the lives of countless numbers of patients infected with HIV and cured millions of folks of their potentially deadly Hepatitis C virus infections. It is noteworthy that the HCV drugs enabled a medical first: it was the first time that medical science was able to cure a chronic viral infection. Warren now eagerly awaits the results of ongoing clinical trials for his next set of anti-viral and anti-cancer drugs, hoping to bring further breakthroughs to the medical field.

Re-discovering a Passion for Voice Over
Amidst the demanding nature of his scientific career, Warren managed to carve out a small space for his voice-over passion. For the past three decades he has served as a lectionary reader at his church, sharing his captivating voice with the congregation. Reading to and connecting with 600 – 1000 people? No problem! When his grown son left home Warren seized the opportunity to create a home studio and office from that vacated bedroom. With the convenience of a professional setup at home, he ventured into narrating audiobooks, and that marked a pivotal turning point in his life.

Immersing himself in the recording booth for hours on end, Warren discovered great joy from his voice-over work. He found that the scripted words seemed to jump off the page for him. Warren could almost hear the author’s voice in his head, instructing him on when and how to use nuance, emphasis and emotion to most effectively convey the author’s message to the listener. All Warren had to do was follow these intuitive instructions and use his voice to create the audio narration. Finding deep fulfillment in bringing authors’ words to life for the listeners, Warren gladly took on the editing and mastering processes, ensuring the delivery of top-quality audio productions from his home studio. He has now produced more than 120 hours of mastered audiobook recordings representing titles in both the fiction and non-fiction genres. It is safe to say that this audiobook work transformed Warren’s passion for voice-over from mere “warm embers” to an all-consuming fire.
